• Did it show an error code? Write the code down before you clear it, along with the model number from the tag. It saves time on the visit.

The Folding Flap on a French-Door Fridge

Open the doors of most French-door refrigerators and you'll see, on one of them (usually the left), a narrow strip standing along the edge, hinged so it can fold. A blocked vent can throw off baking results and push extra heat toward the controls. Leave that spot open whenever the oven is on, and you'll avoid both. If you notice heavy steam or smoke pouring from the vent, or the knobs and panel get uncomfortably hot, turn the oven off and have it checked.
