Atlanta Ice Maker Repair by Hank's Crew

Nobody notices the ice maker until the sweet tea is warm. Then it's the most important appliance in the house. I'm Hank, and my crew fixes ice makers all over metro Atlanta: the one in your freezer, the one in your French-door fridge door and the undercounter machine in the basement bar. Usually it comes down to one part, and we can be there same- or next-day.

Call (470) 516-8711, where a real person answers 24/7, or send the form on this page and we'll ring you back.

Hank's Five-Minute Ice Maker Checks

Try these before you call. They fix a surprising number of "broken" ice makers.

  1. Is it turned on? Look for a switch on the ice maker or an ice setting on the display. On older models, a metal arm that's flipped up means "bin full, stop."
  2. Is the freezer cold? Ice makers need a properly cold freezer. If the freezer is running warm, fix that first, and our freezer repair page can help.
  3. Is water getting there? Check the little valve on the water line behind the fridge or under the sink. If the fridge got moved recently, look for a pinched line.
  4. When did you last change the filter? A clogged filter slows the water, and the cubes shrink. If the water dispenser is slow too, start here.

Still nothing after a day? Time to call.

How a Mars Visit Goes

You call. We ask the brand, the model if you have it, and what's happening. You get a time window, usually same- or next-day.

We test it. The tech checks water flow and the inlet valve, looks for ice in the fill tube, measures the freezer temperature and runs the ice maker through a test cycle. Then we tell you straight what failed and what it takes to fix, before any work starts. Your call whether we go ahead.

We fix it. Genuine or OEM-approved parts, a test cycle, and a check that water is flowing before we leave. A fresh ice maker takes about a day to fill the bin, so don't panic if it's empty at dinner. You get a warranty of up to 6 months on the parts and the labor.

The Parts That Usually Quit

Every Kind of Ice Maker We Fix

Freezer ice makers in top-freezer, bottom-freezer and side-by-side refrigerators. The classic setup: tray, heater, arm or sensor.

Ice makers in the fridge door on French-door models. They live in an insulated box and get cold air through a duct from the freezer. When the duct, fan or seal acts up, ice slows down or the box frosts over.

Two-ice-maker fridges that make regular cubes and specialty ice. Each has its own water and control side.

Undercounter clear-ice machines for bars, kitchens and basements. They need a working drain or drain pump and regular cleaning, because minerals in the water build up as scale and slow them down.

Fix It or Replace It? Hank's Straight Answer

Fix it. An ice maker problem is almost never a reason to replace a refrigerator. Valves, fill tubes, modules, filters and augers are all standard parts.

The only time I'd hesitate is when the ice maker is the symptom and the real problem is a failing sealed system in an old fridge. If we find that, you'll hear it from us plainly.

Brands We Service

We service ice makers in refrigerators from Samsung, LG, GE, GE Profile, GE Café, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Frigidaire, Kenmore, Bosch and Electrolux, high-end built-ins from Sub-Zero, Thermador, Viking, Monogram and Jenn-Air, and undercounter ice machines from U-Line, Marvel and Scotsman. Our techs have years of experience pulling and replacing ice makers on these brands.

Mars Appliance Repair is an independent, family-owned company and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any manufacturer. Brands are listed only to show which ice makers we work on.

What's Your Ice Maker Doing?

Nothing. No ice, no sound

Bad water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube, a dead ice maker module or a control issue.

Tiny, hollow or half-moon cubes

Not enough water is getting into the mold. Low water pressure, an old filter or a weak valve.

One giant ice brick in the bin

Cubes melting and refreezing. Freezer temperature swings or a slow drip into the bin.

Ice on the freezer floor

The fill tube is out of place or the valve drips after it should shut.

A puddle on the kitchen floor

A cracked water line, a loose fitting or a leak in the door line.

Frost inside the ice box in the fridge door

On French-door models, a worn seal or an airflow problem lets damp air freeze in there.

Dispenser grinds but no ice comes out

Ice jammed in the chute or auger, or the auger motor gave up.

Cubes taste funny

Old filter, old ice, or freezer odors soaking into the ice.

It cycles and clicks but the tray stays empty

The ice maker is trying, but water isn't showing up.

Ice Maker FAQ — The Stuff People Ask Hank

? Why did my ice maker quit?

Most often the freezer is too warm, the fill tube froze, the inlet valve failed, the filter is clogged, or the ice maker got switched off.

? Why are my cubes so small?

The tray isn't filling. Low water pressure, an old filter or a tired valve.

? Water's leaking from my ice maker. Can I keep using it?

Shut off the water to the fridge and dry the floor. Even a slow leak can ruin flooring, so book a repair soon.

? How long until I get ice after the repair?

It starts cycling soon, but a full bin usually takes about a day.

? Do you fix the ice maker in the door of a French-door fridge?

Yes. That includes the ice box seal, the fan and duct, and the dispenser.

? Can you repair an undercounter ice machine?

Yes. We work on the water system, drain pump and controls of built-in undercounter ice makers.

? What warranty do I get on an ice maker repair?

Our ice maker repairs carry up to 6 months of warranty on parts and labor.

? Are you connected to the fridge brands?

No. Mars is an independent, family-owned crew. We name brands so you know we fix them.
